More U.S. families struggling to feed children, report says - CNN.com
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/18/hungry.kids/index.html
Commits:
I really think that we (USA) need to step back and look at what is going on in this country first. This is an example of failure of policies that need to be changed. There is no reason why we have starving kids in this country and we are giving out $$$$ to other countries http://www.usaid.gov/regions/
Tainted meats point to superbug C. diff in food - Health care- msnbc.com
A potentially deadly intestinal germ increasingly found in hospitals is also showing up in a more unsavory setting: grocery store meats.
More than 40 percent of packaged meats sampled from three Arizona chain stores tested positive for Clostridium difficile, a gut bug known as C. diff., according to newly complete analysis of 2006 data collected by a University of Arizona scientist.

Review: Google's HTC Dream phone -- That's it?
Here is CNN review of the T-Mobile G1.
It's been a little more than a year since Google Android was announced and rumors of a little device called the HTC Dream started to leak onto the Web.
The G1 does not support stereo Bluetooth, Microsoft Exchange, or video recording.
We think it's fair to say that the Dream stirred up as much anticipation and hype as the Apple iPhone, not only because it would be the first smartphone to run Google's mobile platform but also because of the potential to overtake Apple's darling.

I think that it is a great phone for being Google’s First OS.
It will be great to see the second generation of this.

Potty problem at Aspen Elementary School
ASPEN — A back-up of raw sewage closed eight of 20 restrooms at the Aspen Elementary School on Wednesday.
Despite the shortage, students and teachers managed with the 12 open restrooms, according to Assistant Superintendent John Maloy.
The challenges, he said, were figuring out which restrooms to close and communicating that information to students.
“You didn't know until you flushed a toilet in a given area and then it would back up,” he explained.
By 4:30 p.m., plumbers had not been able to clear the line with the blockage, according to Maloy. However, the Colorado Department of Health told Maloy that the school did not need to be closed Thursday, even if the line could not be cleared.
Maloy initially had been concerned that the health code might require some number of open restrooms per child. But the code does not specify restrooms per child. Instead, it requires that restrooms be located no more than 200 feet from any one classroom.
On Wednesday, no classroom was more than 190 feet from an open restroom, Maloy said.
Meanwhile, plumbers were planning to work into the night with a larger snake to work on clearing the line.
“We're very optimistic that by bringing in bigger guns — snakes in this case — we're going to get it cleaned,” he said.

Cooper Street fades to black
Aspen’s only dive bar has called last call.
After years of serving cheap beer legally and narcotics on the side, the infamous Cooper Street Pier is finally closing its doors for business. Cooper Street Co-Tenancy LLC is seizing the property because Cooper Street’s operators have failed to pay their bills.

It is a sign of how the economy affects everyone, everywhere….
Economy has boat owners abandoning ship
When recreation, or vocation, becomes too expensive they let them sink
SAN FRANCISCO - From Southern California to Maine, the foundering economy, high fuel prices and poor fishing have driven boat owners to abandon perhaps thousands of vessels on the waterfront, where they are beginning to break up and sink, leaking oil and other pollutants.

Tech puts JFK conspiracy theories to rest
Sixth floor of book depository, not the grassy knoll, was origin of lethal shot
A team of experts assembled by the Discovery Channel has recreated the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Using modern blood spatter analysis, new artificial human body surrogates, and 3-D computer simulations, the team determined that the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository was the most likely origin of the shot that killed the 35th president of the United States.

AT&T rolls out Nokia 6650
AT&T took the wraps off the new Nokia 6650 Thursday. Offering a thin flip-phone design--still a rarity for Nokia--the 6650 shows a brushed metal skin in either red or silver. In fact, it could almost resemble the Motorola Razr if you squint.
As for features, the 3G world phone offers a music player with support for AT&T's Mobile Music service, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Video Share, voice dialing, a speakerphone, personal-organizer options, a microSD card slot, stereo Bluetooth, an XHTML Web browser, and a 2-megapixel camera. The 6650 will be available beginning Friday for $69.99 with a two-year service contract.

California high-speed train system to link NorCal and SoCal at 220mph
Like it or not California, it's about time you folks ponied up for a serious rail system. With the recent passage of Proposition 1A, the wheels have started to churn on a sophisticated bullet train system that will eventually link San Diego in the south with Sacramento in the north, with stops at most every major city in between (LA and San Francisco included). The 800-mile network of trains would operate at upwards of 220mph and cost around $45 billion to construct, but it'll create 320,000 permanent jobs by 2030 and reduce the state's reliance on fossil fuel by 12.7 million barrels of oil per year. Unfortunately, there's no set time frame for completion just yet, but we wouldn't be surprised to see this one finished before that Anaheim - Las Vegas maglev project even gets off the ground.

Do you think that this will get people in California out of their cars? I don’t think so, but one can always hope.
